ITINERARY

Zrmanja and Krupa are among the most beautiful rivers in Europe: perfectly clear warm water, spectacular canyon with magnificent waterfall. They are easy and safe enough for beginner canoeists but their scenery makes them also very exciting. You will see many fish and birds and explore typical karst phenomenon – living travertine waterfalls.

The trip begins in Kaštel Žegarski, only one hour drive from Zadar. You will quickly learn how to handle sit-on-top kayaks as you slowly enter the canyon. After first hour of paddling down easy rapids you will – if time and weather permit – visit beautiful Kupa waterfalls and swim under them. More waterfalls and rapids wait for you as you continue down Zrmanja to Muskovci where the trip ends. At the end of the trip optionally you can enjoy refreshments at a nearby restaurant or take a picnic on your own.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:
No previous rafting experience is needed even children from 6 years old accompanied by parents can participate. We use 6-8 person rafting SOTAR boats which are easy and safe to navigate. You will get a life jacket, a paddle and a helmet, plus long neoprene suits and rain jackets in case of cold weather. Waterproof containers are available for personal items (camera, drinks, etc.). Don’t forget to bring shorts or bathing suit, T-shirt, spare socks and sandals (or sport shoes), towel, sun cream and water. In case of colder weather take a long-sleeved shirt.

NOTICE: During july and august this trip can be configured as kayak/canoe safary on Zrmanja river using the same rute, due to the lower water levels and safety reasons

DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS:
From Zadar follow directions SMILCIC – OBROVAC, and stay on that main road till OBROVAC, once on the big crossroad DO NOT TURN down to the town Obroavac but continue STRAIGHT towards Kastel Zegarski once there just follow the signs RAFTREK to the start. From Zadar it takes about 1 hour.

Weather – the summers are typically warm and sunny. From May to October temperatures are comfortable for hiking, paddling, and swimming. Rain is always a possibility in Croatia so it is essential to bring adequate rain wear and a jacket in case of inclement weather.
